The Concours of Elegance has underlined its reputation as a gathering of the world’s rarest cars and finest global brands with an all-new long-term partnership with The Peninsula London, from The Peninsula Hotels.
The Peninsula Hotels is the world’s leading luxury hotel brand, operating ten five-star hotels all over the world, with The Peninsula London poised to open in 2022. The Peninsula Hotels have long been connected with the top-end automotive world, famous for their fleet of Brewster Green Rolls-Royces. Even in the James Bond film The Man With the Golden Gun, Mary Goodnight, remarks, “Everyone knows all the green Rolls-Royces belong to The Peninsula.”
Each Peninsula Rolls-Royce is built and customised according to a set of exacting specifications, among them: cool boxes for chilled hand towels and convenient armrest climate controls in the passenger compartment; modified lighting to provide ample illumination for passengers when entering and exiting; and larger luggage compartments, with specially requested counter-sunk screws and handmade protection covers to prevent damage to suitcases.
While the majority of the Roll-Royce models in The Peninsula’s fleet are extended-wheelbase Phantoms and Silver Spurs, the pride of The Peninsula London’s new fleet is a restored and fully-customised 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom II, Sedanca De-Ville, which will be displayed for the first time at the Concours of Elegance.
The Peninsula Hotels also host The Peninsula Best of the Best Award, their annual competition to crown the finest of all the major concours d’elegance winners in the world. The Concours of Elegance itself was a founding member of this competition.
James Brooks-Ward, Concours of Elegance CEO, said: “From our venue to our cars to our partners, we hand-pick each and every aspect of the Concours of Elegance. Really, there can only be one hotel group with the global renown necessary to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our event, and we’re delighted that The Peninsula London joins us from this year. The addition of this new partnership evolves our event even further into the ultra-high-end luxury sphere, helping us to deliver an experience that’s right up there with the very best concours d’elegance events in the world.”
Sonja Vodusek, Managing Director of The Peninsula London said: “Motorcars have always been a passion embraced at The Peninsula Hotels, so it is fitting for us to partner with this most illustrious British automotive event. Like many of our guests, visitors to the Concours of Elegance are true classic-car aficionados, who prize refined luxury and impeccable design. Our partnership with the event promises to be even more exciting next year, when The Peninsula London opens.”
As ever, the Concours of Elegance is focused on gathering a collection of cars so spectacularly rare that visitors won’t be able to see them anywhere else in the world. In fact, some of the cars will never have been seen in the UK before, marking a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many visitors. In total, around 1,000 cars will be on display in a number of special features, including a Gulf vs. Martini celebration, a display of unique or bespoke modern rarities in the Future Classics class and a line-up of the finest coachbuilt Rolls-Royces. New for 2021 is a collection of 95 British cars gathered to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 95th birthday, and a 30UNDER30 Concours aimed at inspiring the next-generation of classic car enthusiast.
